About Katpadi Junction

Katpadi Junction (station code KPD) is the main railway station serving Vellore. It sits on the north side of the Palar river, while Sripuram is on the south side of Vellore, so the journey crosses the town.

Distance by road: about 15 km by road.

Fares

We do not publish fares. Auto and taxi prices in Vellore vary with demand, time of day and whether you book through an app, and any figure we quoted would soon be out of date. Check the app fare, or agree a price before setting off.

Luggage: plan before you leave the station

The official "Do's and don'ts" page lists backpacks, haversacks, big bags, suitcases and trolleys as strictly prohibited on the Sripuram premises. The cloak room at the entrance takes mobile phones, bags and footwear.

Independent planning guidance

If you are travelling with suitcases, the simplest option is to check in to your hotel first, or to keep them in a hired taxi that waits for you. Do not assume large luggage can be left at the temple.

Arrival considerations

  • Darshan runs 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, daily, so an early-morning train arrival leaves time for breakfast in Vellore first.
  • On Fridays to Sundays, the Divya Darshan seva runs until 7:30 PM.
  • Change into clothing that meets the dress code before you reach the temple.

Planning the return train

  1. Check your return train on the Indian Railways enquiry system on the day, in case of delays or platform changes.
  2. Work backwards: time to reach Katpadi, plus time to collect belongings from the cloak room and footwear counter, plus the walk out from the temple.
  3. If you are booking a taxi back, arrange it before you go in, as you will not have your phone inside.

Independent planning guidance

Leave Sripuram with a generous margin before your train. Collecting belongings, finding transport and crossing Vellore can each take longer than expected, especially on weekends and festival days.
