The Star Path at Sripuram

Every visitor reaches the Golden Temple along the Star Path. Here is what it is, what sources say about its size, and how to walk it comfortably.

What it is

The Golden Temple stands at the centre of a star-shaped path with twelve vertices, which the official website likens to the Sri Chakra. Messages "of truth and righteousness" are posted on both sides of the pathway, on topics such as the purpose of human life, what we should and should not do, and devotion.

How long is it?

The official temple information does not currently give a precise pathway length; some secondary references describe the route as more than 1.8 km. The path has not been measured for this guide.

Independent planning guidance

Treat the Star Path as a long walk rather than a short corridor. How long it takes depends on your pace, how often you stop to read the messages, and how the queue is moving that day.

The visitor experience

The path is the route to darshan, not an optional extra. The official recommendations ask visitors to read the messages, sit for a while, meditate and pray in silence as they walk. The official facilities page lists drinking water, restrooms and seating in the queue complexes along the way.

Walking considerations

Independent planning guidance

You walk barefoot after leaving footwear at the counter. In hot weather, the paths can get warm in the middle of the day, so a morning or late-afternoon visit is more comfortable. Visitors who cannot walk the distance can ask for a wheelchair with an escort at the entrance.

Symbolism

The official website describes the twelve-vertex star as creating "a divine energy form on the Earth, akin to the sacred Srichakra", and the walk as a reminder of the original purpose of life. Devotees experience the path as a preparation for darshan; these are spiritual descriptions, not claims this guide makes.

How the path fits the overall design: architecture. Planning for the walk with older relatives: elderly visitors.
