Sripuram and Vellore in a day

Vellore Fort is about 10 km from Sripuram, which makes it the most practical addition to a temple visit.

Why this combination works

Vellore Fort is in the centre of Vellore, about 10 km by road from Sripuram. The Vellore District Government describes it as a 16th-century granite fort, used by the British as a garrison and the site of the Vellore revolt of 1806. Inside are the Jalakandeswarar temple, a mosque and a church, and the Government Museum, Vellore, is within the fort premises.

Suggested plan

  1. Morning: Sripuram from 8:00 AM, when darshan opens, before the day gets hot.
  2. Late morning: prasadam, then the short walk to Sri Narayani Temple across the road.
  3. Midday: lunch at the Annadhana Mandapam (12 noon to 3:00 PM) or in Vellore town.
  4. Afternoon: Vellore Fort, the Jalakandeswarar temple and the museum. Walking the ramparts is more comfortable once the heat eases.
  5. Evening: back to your hotel, or return to Sripuram with a good margin before darshan closes at 8:00 PM.

What to verify locally

  • Jalakandeswarar temple hours: like many South Indian temples, it may close for part of the afternoon. Confirm the current hours before planning your afternoon around it.
  • Museum and monument hours inside the fort area: check locally, as they can differ from the fort grounds.

Independent planning guidance

Swapping the order (fort in the morning, Sripuram in the afternoon) also works, and suits visitors who want to be at Sripuram in the evening.
